You have probably heard the term creative entrepreneur tossed around a lot online lately but what exactly is a creative entrepreneur?
First let’s take a look at the holy grail of the internet, Wikipedia, who says “Creative entrepreneurship is the practice of setting up a business – or setting yourself up as self-employed – in one of the creative industries. The focus of the creative entrepreneur differs from that of the typical business entrepreneur or, indeed, the social entrepreneur in that s/he is concerned first and foremost with the creation and exploitation of creative or intellectual capital. Essentially, creative entrepreneurs are investors in talent – their own or other people’s.”
So basically, creative entrepreneurs are those who build their business around their talents and a have a focus on creating. However, being a creative entrepreneur is more than just being creative. It’s a mindset. It’s about having the passion, determination, and motivation to make your creativity into a business. Not only do you have to have the creative ability but also having that entrepreneur spirit. It’s about creating goals, taking risks and handling the challenges that make you your own boss.

How does one start being a creative entrepreneur?
Find Your Passion

Have A Vision
Having a vision of exactly what your dream is will help keep you on track with your goals. You don’t want to be a jack of all trades when it comes to being a creative entrepreneur. If you are a photographer, what exactly does the perfect career look like for you? Do you want to sell your prints in art galleries or in your own store? Do you want to be the go-to wedding photographer in your town? Having a vision will keep you, your brand and your business all on the same track.
Do some research
Once you have an idea of what your passion is the next step is to research how you can sell it. Are you a dancer? Teach online dance classes. Graphic Designer? Sell your designs or become a freelancer. Research your ideal client and then find the perfect platforms you can use to sell your talents to them.
This is the MOST IMPORTANT step. Get started on your business. Make your product, start your blog, write that book—whatever it is, just start.Make your product, start your blog, write that book—whatever it is, just start. Click To Tweet
After you start your biz, it’s time to self-promote. Get on social media, go to networking events, email potential clients, send out flyers– get your name and biz out there.
There are gonna be times where you get so frustrated or it seems like everything is failing but you have to push through and keep going. If you are really struggling with something, look for help. Reseach, take a class, reach out to a mentor–there is a ton of help out there for you. Ignore all the talk of that overnight success bullshit cause what no one likes to talk about is that it takes years to become an overnight success. It takes hard work to be successful but YOU CAN DO IT.
